Radiona.org poziva na predavanje i predstavljanje knjige Alive: Synthetic Cells, Feral Robots, Rebellious AI & the Design of Radical Life američke umjetnice, autorice i edukatorice Madeline Schwartzman, u petak, 9. listopada 2026. od 18 sati u Radioni.

Knjiga Alive: Synthetic Cells, Feral Robots, Rebellious AI & the Design of Radical Life, u izdanju Thames & Hudson, interdisciplinarni je pregled suvremenih istraživanja i eksperimenata na sjecištu sintetske biologije, biologije, robotike, umjetne inteligencije, inženjerstva i umjetnosti.

Radiona.org invites you to a lecture and presentation of the book Alive: Synthetic Cells, Feral Robots, Rebellious AI & the Design of Radical Life by New York-based artist, writer and educator Madeline Schwartzman, on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 6 PM at Radiona.

In her lecture, Schwartzman will traverse the interconnected strands of her artistic, research and educational practice – from installations, wearable and interactive works and kinetic devices to her ongoing exploration of the body and the senses as sites for innovation. The talk will focus in particular on the extremes and expanded forms of aliveness explored in her recently published book Alive, as well as her current documentary project on the Amazon rainforest, which brings science and art together. Expect a highly visual presentation featuring hundreds of images and videos.
Admission is free, and no prior notice is required; if you have a question or wish to interview the author, please email us at: radiona.org@gmail.com
Published by Thames & Hudson, Alive: Synthetic Cells, Feral Robots, Rebellious AI & the Design of Radical Life is a cross-disciplinary survey of contemporary developments and experiments across synthetic biology, biology, robotics, artificial intelligence, engineering and art. Schwartzman brings together a remarkable range of cellular, hybrid, digital, generative and material entities, examining both the ideas behind their creation and our shifting understanding of what it means to be alive.
Madeline Schwartzman is a New York City artist, writer and educator whose work explores human narratives, the human sensorium and human/plant interactions. She is the author of See Yourself Sensing: Redefining Human Perception (2011), a collection of futuristic proposals for the body and the senses, and See Yourself X: Human Futures Expanded (2018), which explores the future of the human head. Her latest book, Alive, examines developments in synthetic biology, robotics, artificial intelligence, engineering and art that are transforming our perception of what it means to be alive. She is currently producing a feature-length documentary about the Amazon rainforest.
Recent solo exhibitions include The ReInstitute in Millerton, New York; Mediamatic in Amsterdam; the Bruce Gallery at PennWest Edinboro; and Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Schwartzman is a long-term faculty member at Barnard College, Columbia University, and Parsons School of Design.
