do četvrtka, 22. siječnja 2026. u ponoć.

U 2024. godini produkciju Synthomira preuzima start-up Intergalaktik iz Zagreba.

As part of the celebration marking twelve years since the creation of Radiona’s first synthesizer – Synthomir, a workshop of the same name will be held under the guidance of Igor Brkić on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Radiona.

Synthomir is an 8-bit DIY synthesizer based on an ATmega microcontroller, compatible with the Arduino development environment, and using the Mozzi library for sound synthesis. It features three operating modes – a rhythm machine (with loop mode), bass, and theremin mode – while its minimalist user interface consists of only three elements: a potentiometer, a photoresistor, and a push button. This reduced approach was designed to encourage experimentation and enable future upgrades and modifications.
(More details about how Synthomir began can be found at the end of the text.)

If you would like your own copy of this now already cult synthesizer, which you can further develop on your own, now is the time to get started before the DIY kits run out.
You can register via the following link: https://forms.gle/Ld7kDHighAoHvBW36
Registration is open until Thursday, January 22, 2026, at midnight.
The participation fee for Synthomir is EUR 40.00, and you take your device home with you.

About the workshop leader:
Igor Brkić graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, where he focused on digital audio signal processing. He works in embedded and web programming, electronic device design, and music. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and projects and has been leading successful workshops for many years, with a special focus on Arduino, creative use of sensors in interactive installations, sound synthesis, 3D modeling in FreeCAD, PCB design in KiCAD, cryptography and privacy, and the design and programming of e-badges. He is the author of many robotic and electronic solutions for museums, exhibitions, domestic and international theatre productions, television shows, and independent artists.

He regularly exhibits his interactive works as part of Radiona’s exhibition program, of which he is one of the co-founders, and is internationally established within the Hackaday community, where he regularly publishes his open source projects and hardware hacks. His contribution to the development of e-badges for the DORS/CLUC conference, which have been presented at numerous regional open source and hacker conferences, should be particularly highlighted. As part of the international project Creative Museum, he was awarded a 10-day maker residency in Norway. Through his startup Hyperglitch, he has been active for several years in leading international ICT projects.

How did Synthomir begin?
Synthomir was conceived as a DIY electronic kit for assembly and as part of the research project Amplitude of Image and Sound, which Radiona – the Association for the Development of “Do-It-Yourself” Culture – conducted during 2014, with the support of the Kultura Nova Foundation. This was also the first institutional support the association received after its formal founding. The project is fully open source – the source code, electronic schematics, and PCB design files are freely available for use, adaptation, and further development.

The electronic schematic and sound concept of Synthomir were developed by Igor Brkić, the PCB design and visual concept were created by Damir Prizmić, while Deborah Hustić conceived the research framework of the project and the name of the synthesizer.

Since its inception, Synthomir has been recognized beyond the DIY and makerspace community. In 2016, Synthomir was exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale as part of the Croatian national presentation, and in the same year received a Special Mention in the professional selection of the Product Design category by the Croatian Designers Association, within the Croatian Design Exhibition Biennial. It was also presented at the EarZoom Sonic Arts Festival / Music Tech Fest in Ljubljana.

Among the workshops and presentations, we highlight its inclusion in Device_art 5.015 in Zagreb, the event Cirkulacija2 et al. Access to Tools organized by Cirkulacija2 and Aksioma in Ljubljana, the KLFM program Radio Day and Night in collaboration with UMAS in Split, and the Creative Museum symposium in Bologna. Synthomir has been exhibited at numerous exhibitions, including ZEZ Festival, Festival Abandon Normal Devices at Drugo more in Rijeka, the international exhibition WonderLab at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, Radiona’s exhibition Sound Hybrids – Creative Sonology at the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum, Maker Faire Ljubljana, and Maker Faire Trondheim.

In 2024, the production of Synthomir was taken over by the Zagreb-based startup Intergalaktik.
