The Festival of the Firsts is a multidisciplinary art festival, which has been held in Zagreb for twenty-five years. The Festival of the Firsts was launched by multimedia artist Željko Zorica (1957 – 2013), setting it as a review of the achievements of creators of various artistic and non-artistic profiles. Each year, the FP announces a central theme. Previous topics have been: reclamation, GMOs and biotechnologies, domination, mines, social responsibility of capital, media and children’s rights, free education, dealing with the Sun, unknown places in Croatian art in the 70s and 80s, hope, a society of disappointment, depression, solidarity, the right to (mis)error, inventing tradition, the age of emptiness, fickle love – about the fragility of human relationships, the need for an apartment and housing policy, loneliness and social isolation, and the time of risk – uncertainty as a constant, (in)visible women, loss/grief and Short Circuit – Technology and visions of the future.
