Accessing Latent Spaces: A Dive into Real-Time Open Source Generative AI

Accessing Latent Spaces: A Personal Narrative of Real-Time Open Source Generative AI

AI+ART+LAB Workshop by Marlon Barrios Solano | April 25-26, 2024 Radiona, Zagreb | Croatia

As part of my residency at Radiona from April 14th to 29th, I had the unique opportunity to conduct the "Accessing Latent Spaces" workshop. This event, held on April 25th and 26th, invited eight participants to dive deep into the world of real-time open source generative AI. Utilizing platforms like Huggingface, Fal.ai, and Replicate, we explored the intersection of cutting-edge AI technology and artistic creation.

Day 1: Generative AI and Its Artistic Integration

The first day was dedicated to foundational AI concepts such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). I introduced these topics not just as technical concepts but as tools for artistic innovation. Through a lecture-performance, we explored how these technologies could be seamlessly integrated into art, providing a hands-on experience in creating advanced chatbots using no-code platforms.

Day 2: Hands-On Creation – Entangled with Imagination Engines

The second day focused on practical application. Participants engaged in hacking and enhancing AI-powered web applications like Vera AI and Bauhaus Time Traveller. This session was designed to be highly interactive, allowing participants to apply their new skills in real-time, encouraging them to understand the apps' structure and potential enhancements through direct experimentation.

Conclusion and Reflections

This workshop was a crucial part of my residency, allowing me to share my passion for blending AI with creative processes. Over these two days, participants not only learned about AI technologies but also applied these concepts to create unique and personal art projects. Their enthusiasm and innovative approaches highlighted the transformative potential of AI in art.

I am grateful to Radiona for hosting this residency and to all participants whose creativity and engagement made this workshop a success. This experience has reinforced my belief in the power of community and collaboration in pushing the boundaries of art and technology. I look forward to continuing this journey and seeing how the participants evolve in their artistic endeavors with AI.
